WiFi (or Wi-Fi) is a local wireless network which allows for data exchange between electronic devices or access to the Internet using radio waves with length of 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz. Different devices, such as computers, game consoles, smartphones, digital cameras can connect to the Internet thanks to a WiFi signal broadcast by a so call Access Point (AP). AP, also called a hotspot can spread the signal from a few meters up to over 100 meters depending on the used technology, construction materials used at the site and service settings itself.
In case of WiFi connection, its security is considered more than ever, because no physical access is needed to breach the network's security. That is one of the reasons why in the last 10 to 15 years many security standards were developed (WEP, WPA-PSK, WPA-TKIP, WPA2 AES, etc.),and their primary function is to protect WiFi from dangerous misuse.
The main benefits of WiFi technology is relatively cheap and fast installation (no physical infrastructure needs to be built) and its implementation is possible at premises where physical infrastructure is missing or prohibited (historical buildings).
